Caving & Northern Lights Hunt

Starting from: Reykjavík
Season: 15th Sep-15th Apr
Duration: Combo tour, ~9 hours, with a 2 hour break between tours
Difficulty: Caving - 2/5 (easy, but good fitness and mobility necessary); Northern Lights - 1/5

A combo tour that takes you inside a famous lava cave, and then on a Northern Lights hunt.

This tour is a combination of two tours.
We first explore the 900 m lava cave Leiðarendi.

This part of the tour is suitable for all who can walk on uneven surfaces and at times, on all fours. The cave's ceiling and walls are broken or collapsed in very few places and it is therefore easy to navigate. Although sometimes the cave’s ceiling gets a bit low so you might have to crawl for a short distance.

This part lasts 3.5 hrs, of which ~1-1.5 inside the cave.

After the caving tour, you will be dropped off at your hotel in Reykjavik, where you will arrive at ~19:00, and will have around 2 hours for dinner. You will be picked up again between 21:00 - 21:30, and go searching for the beautiful Northern Lights. Return to Reykjavik is between midnight and 1 am.

The itinerary for the Northern Lights part of this combo tour depends on the weather conditions and Aurora forecast. We will drive to the place with the highest likelihood of seeing the Northern Lights during the tour hours. Locations may include the Reykjanes peninsula, Golden Circle area, or northwards to Borgarfjordur.

The tour is operated on a minibus, up to 18 passengers.
