Starting from: Reykjavík
Season: All year
Duration: 5+ days

The classic Ring Road offers incredible natural diversity – waterfalls & canyons, lagoons & beaches, glaciers & volcanoes.

Take our very popular private tour to visit the famous tourist attractions and also explore some of the gems off the beaten path!

Day 1: Today we start by visiting the famous Golden Circle in the afternoon - Þingvellir national park, Geysir geyser area, and Gullfoss waterfall. We stop along the South Coast to admire the waterfalls of Seljalandsfoss & Skógafoss, and catch glimpses of Iceland's most famous volcanoes (Hekla, Katla and the infamous Eyjafjallajökull). Overnight in or around Vik.

Day 2: Today we drive further east and stop to visit some of the most beautiful places along the South Coast: black sand beaches near the village of Vík, picturesque basalt column formations and peaks at Reynisdrangar, black lava fields, the Landbrotshólar Hills which are one of the largest pseudo-crater areas in the world. Weather and time permitting we will visit Dyrhólaey, a small but majestic peninsula which is the southernmost point of the mainland. Formed by a sub-aquatic eruption, it looks like a doorway in the ocean and is home to a large variety of seabirds. We will stop at the beautiful Skaftafell nature reserve where it is possible to take a short hike. Overnight in or around Hofn.

Day 3: Jokulsarlon & the Eastfjords Today we will visit Jökulsárlón, the most famous glacier lagoon in Iceland. Located at the end of an outlet glacier of the great Vatnajökull glacier, it features huge floating icebergs and is a perfect place to enjoy the beautiful landscape of Iceland. If the lagoon is not frozen it is possible to enjoy a 40 minute boat ride where you sail the magical lagoon to get close to the beautiful icebergs. If not it is always possible to take a walk alongside the lake and on the black sand shores and look out for the seals which can often be spotted in the lagoon. We will drive through the beautiful Eastfjords where you will see some spectacular winter landcape dotted with charming villages. Overnight in Egilsstadir.

Day 4: Lake Myvatn, Dettifoss & Akureyri Today we will explore North Iceland where you can visit the world famous Mývatn region with its picturesque natural surroundings, geothermal activity and unique birdlife; the lava formations and canyons of Dimmuborgir and Ásbyrgi; and the spectacular waterfalls of Dettifoss and Goðafoss. You can also take a relaxing soak in the geothermal pool at Lake Myvatn. In the evening you can explore the charming town of Akureyri. Overnight in Akureyri.

Day 5: The northwestern countryside & Borgarfjordur Today we will drive back to Reykjavik through the beautiful north western countryside. We stop to visit the Deildartunguhver hot springs and Barnafossar waterfalls. We drive through the beautiful "the valleys" of Dalir and the Borgarfjörður fjord dotted with lava lansdscape and uncountable islands.
